Skylane 62 |
Built in 2022 from the vintage but excellent Carl Goldberg kit. The plan alone is a fantastic source of inspiration for building and finishing techniques. Although all parts are old fashioned die cut, the fit is exceptional. My hat off to such a beautiful and well thought out design! The designer managed to create an excellent trainer model with refined scale looks. In my opinion, the CG Skylane 62 looks far better than a true to scale Cessna Skylane. I thoroughly enjoyed building this vintage kit. The kit is no longer available. Luckily, I still have a second untouched kit in my collection and the plan is still available from outerzone. I finished the model in the original boxtop scheme with Oracover film and some paint around the cockpit windows. The decals were too old and yellowed, so I printed my own. Power is an OS MAX 28 FSR engine with a Graupner nylon propeller and a Tru-Turn aluminium spinner. The 28 FSR is not so well known. It's a slightly larger version of the very popular 25 FSR I stayed loyal to the design of the kit but I did reduce the dihedral on the wing and did not install the wing struts. The model hasn't flown yet, but it will shortly.
