Blue Angel 60 |
I built this model from the very nice kit made available by Ratzo Modellbau in Germany. It is a tribute to Mr. Yoshioka from Japan who won the F3A World Championships in 1973 with his Blue Angel. That event was held in Gorizia, Italy, the same place where I would win my first F4C Scale World Championships title some 15 years later, so it has a strong symbolic meaning. I duplicated the looks of Mr. Yoshioka's Blue Angel as much as I could and was inspired by the magazine cover below. I especially liked how the blue colour appeared to be metallic on that particular photograph print. looks pretty much as the original from Mr. Yoshioka... The model is powered by an (almost) period correct OS MAX 60 FSR engine. A Kavan 11-7 3/4 chromed nylon propeller is fitted. The yellow spinner is from Du-Bro. Retracts are electrical and are made by Jetcraft. Covering is all Oracover except for the metallic blue. That was a leftover piece from some other manufacturer found at my local hobby shop, Aerobertics. All graphics were cut from Easyplot with a Roland Stika STX-8. super reliable OS MAX 60 FSR for power (a similar engine was used in my P-51B Mustang scale model back in 1984, more details here)
